First Exam
1. What will happen at the first examination appointment?
When you arrive, each patient and parent will be seen by one of our treatment coordinators who will acquant you with our clinic and prepare for the initial orthodontic screening. Necessary photographs and x-rays will be taken to allow Dr. Garrett to view and make a accurate diagnosis and treatment plan for problems such as overbite.
2. Are there any other tests that may be needed?
Diagnostic records are needed for detailed treatment planning and disclosure. This may include orthodontic models and specific x-rays of teeth, facial bones, jaws and TMJ (temporomandibular joints) depending on each individual case.
3. What does the doctor do?
Dr. Garrett will provide a thorough clinical examination according to your specific needs. He will discover what your concerns and expectations are going to be. Dr. Garrett is interested in each of his patients’ particular needs and concerns. He will openly discuss his visual findings and treatment recommendations at this time.
4. What important questions will be discussed during the first examination?
There are five important questions that will be answered during the first examination:
- Is there an orthodontic need and if so, what is it?
- What must be done to correct the issue?
- Will any teeth need to be removed?
- How long will the treatment take to complete?
- How much will the treatment cost?
5. What happens next?
The treatment coordinator will facilitate further discussion. The first examination provides comprehensive information including treatment options, finances and estimated completion time.
